Another contribution from our Pen Expert Inky Pete! Read below as Pete talks about one of his favourite pens, The Lamy Studio Fountain Pen!There is something about the Lamy Studio that makes it stand out from other pens. Some describe it as an elegant design, I’ve seen it described as trendy (that’s subjective), but I just like the way it looks.

The pens most striking feature is the pocket clip. A twisted design that actually does what a clip should – it clips! I’ve got plenty of pens where the clip is a half hearted attempt to have something that hangs on to your pocket. The Lamy Studio clip is strong. And it does look great. I wonder what designer Hannes Wettstein had in mind when he first drew this design?

This pen is a beautiful writer. If a pen doesn’t write right then it’s not a pen as far as I am concerned. The stainless steel nib (gold available too) on the Lamy Studio is a beauty to write with and runs true to the nib grade. A fine writes fine whereas some Japanese brands write a grade or two finer. You can be confident that the nibs here run true.

I also like the balance of this pen. It does have a solid feel but sits very nicely in the hand – the cap can be posted which is my preferred way of using a fountain pen. I find my Lamy Studio very good for writing for long periods of time. It is very comfortable.

You get to choose from Lamy ink cartridges (T10) or a converter is available for bottled ink (Z26) which gives you far more colour choices. I’m a bottled ink man but I understand the convenience of cartridge filled pens too. You can have the best of both worlds with a Lamy Studio.

The pens are actually made in Germany where Lamy has been in business for more than 80 years. German precision at its’ best but more affordable than a BMW or Merc.
